Sedgwick County firefighters quickly contained a house fire near Goddard this morning.
Crews responded to the fire in the 19000 block of West 39th Street South, about two miles south of Goddard, just after 7 a.m.
Fire Division Chief Eddie Fajardo says heavy flames were visible from the attic area when crews arrived. It is believed that the fire started on the back deck.
"Preliminary investigation points to the back deck," says Fajardo. "They think it might have been an ash tray that caught the back of the house on fire."
Flames quickly traveled up the side of the house and into the attic. The fire was brought under control just after 7:30 a.m., but firefighters remained on scene to monitor hot spots.
No one was injured in the blaze.
A damage estimate has not been determined, but Fajardo says there is moderate damage.
