WICHITA, Kan. — Deputies believe a driver had been doing donuts in a field before losing control and flipping his pickup.
That man was killed and another person was hurt following the crash early Thursday in southwest Sedgwick County.
Around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, a woman called 911 saying she had been in an accident in a field, but wasn't sure exactly where she was. Emergency crews responded and soon found a Dodge pickup that was flipped over in a soybean field near 15500 W. Pawnee, just west of 151st Street. It was about 200 yards from the roadway.
When the arrived at the crash scene, they found the driver dead inside the truck. Investigators say he died from injuries sustained from being partially ejected during the crash. He was later identified as 34-year-old Shaun A. Rayl of Wichita.
The also found the injured 39-year-old woman who called 911, and she was transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Investigators believe the accident may have happened at about 1 a.m. Thursday, although the woman who was hurt didn't or was unable to call 911 until hours later.
