KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMBC) — A Kansas City police report details what happened to a man and woman who were robbed and shot after taking a car listed on Craigslist for a test drive.

Police officers said a 53-year-old man, his wife and their 16-year-old son went to an apartment complex in the 5500 block of East 84th Terrace Wednesday evening to look at a white 2007 Hyundai Sonata that was listed on Craigslist.

Authorities said the man and his son took the car for a test drive and after they returned, the man started talking to the seller about buying the car. The seller said he needed to call his wife and walked away.

According to the report, two other men then walked up to the family and demanded that they hand over money. When the family said they didn't have any, the men pointed a gun at the wife.

The 53-year-old stepped in front of his wife and was shot four times. The wife was shot in the upper arm. The 16-year-old was not wounded.

Police said after the shooting, one of the men stole the woman's purse and as he turned to leave, fired one last time at the 53-year-old man.

His current condition is unknown.
