Cox Communications says they have restored email service to residential customers in all affected areas.

In a statement the company released Monday morning, service has been restored, but not all emails that were sent to users during the outage will be immediately available. Some of those emails may come in over the next few days.

Cox says they are replacing email storage platform equipment and implementing measures to prevent an outage like this from happening again.

UPDATE: 10:40 P.M.

Cox Communications says email service has been restored to about 55% of residential customers who experienced an outage this weekend. The company says users will be able to send and receive emails and service to all customers is expected to be restored in full by late Monday morning.

Cox officials say all incoming emails to customers are safely stored and will be gradually delivered to customers. However, the company says they may not be in chronological order.

Cox Communications customers who have been experiencing residential email outages since Friday are still without access.

A statement released by Cox said their teams are progressing in their restoration effort, but they do not expect service to be restored Sunday.

“Through our investigation, we have isolated the cause of the failure to the email system platform which ultimately affected both the primary and secondary failover (back-up) systems,” Cox said in the statement.

Cox said all incoming messages are queued in their system and expected to be delivered as the systems are brought back online.

“We do understand the impact this is having on our customers, which is why we have deployed every resource possible to working this issue. While we are focused on restoring email access as quickly as possible, the multiple components and processes that make up our email system require care, and some time, to bring them back online,” the statement said.

Cox customers in many states are continuing to experience an outage with their residential email service.

The outage reportedly began Friday. Affected states include Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Virginia.

Cox released the following statement regarding the outage:

“Cox technicians continue to work to restore residential email service. Our top priority is to restore service."

"Unfortunately, at this time, we estimate service may not be restored until tonight. If you use Outlook Express or another mail client, you are able to send mail; however, incoming mail is not available at this time. Incoming messages are being stored and should be available when service is fully operational."

"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We will continue to provide regular updates throughout the day.”

Cox says their business services have not been affected.
