ARK CITY, Kan Cowley College President Clark Williams has resigned his position with the school.
The announcement was made in an e-mail to all Cowley College employees Thursday morning.
Williams had been under intense criticism for his recent decision to eliminate the men's and women's soccer program. More than 150 people attended a meeting of the college board of trustees last night.
Williams had been on the job since July, 2013.
Below is the text of Mr. Williams resignation letter, which was sent to staff members, this morning:
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am writing to let you know that I will step down as president of Cowley College at the close of business, today. I have notified the chairman of the board of trustees of my decision, and I have outlined my reason for resigning in a private letter that I will deliver to him later on this afternoon.
Before I depart, however, I would like to signal to the superb faculty and staff of this outstanding college that I have enjoyed working with each and every one of you. Your dedication to academic achievement, institutional performance, and student success will ensure that Cowley College not only accomplishes its mission in the years ahead but also achieves universal recognition as Best in Class for its academic and athletic programs.
I wish for college, faculty, staff, and students fair winds and following seas.
Best regards, Clark
