After three months of collecting tree debris, Sedgwick County is burning the pile left behind by a summer storm.
The county opened a site in the big ditch near 63rd Street South and Meridian as a debris drop-off location following a wind storm that moved through Wichita and the surrounding areas on June 27. Wind speeds topped 70 miles per hour in some areas, leaving tree limbs scattered in yards, streets and on buildings and vehicles.
Early Monday afternoon, county crews lit the debris pile on fire.
