WICHITA, Kan. — Police are looking for a pair of copper thieves after a recent case disrupted phone services for customers in north Wichita.
Shortly after midnight Thursday, AT&T copper wire was cut in the 5200 block of North Arkansas, where construction work was underway. The company's equipment alarm sounded, but they were able to take about 160 feet of copper wire.
An area resident startled the men, and the suspects quickly left the area. The suspects abandoned 109 feet of the wire in the 800 block of West 51st Street North.
The theft caused several thousands of dollars in damage and disrupted phone and utility service to some area residents. The services have since been restored.
No arrests have been made. The suspects are described as two men and they were seen leaving in a Chevy truck.
