Wichita City leaders will be holding a second hearing before approving an amendment for a proposed bond district in northeast Wichita.
Councilmembers are considering whether to approve a STAR bond district for a multi-sports complex near K-96 and Greenwich Road.
The developer plans to build a multi-sports athletic complex called the Good Sports Fieldhouse along with destination hotels and a retail center. It will offer numerous indoor sports courts, and facilities for wrestling, archerry, fencing, volleyball and basketball.
A STAR Bond district means the facility would be financed partly by state and local sales tax collected by the project. To qualify for STAR Bonds, the project must be a major tourism attraction to the area.
The developer told the council Tuesday that an early market study found the fieldhouse will bring in substantial amount of visitors to Wichita. The developer also said a major tenant is debating whether to build in the area.
The public hearing will be held June 5.
