Salina, Kan. -- The city of Salina has a message for residents there. Stop parking vehicles in yards or get ticketed.
City codes have prohibited parking vehicles in yards for many years says Gary Hobbie, Director of Salina Community and Development Services.
Hobbie says, "It just happens to be one of those focal points our city commissioners would like for us to start enforcing."
Hobie says this is just part of a greater effort in enforcing property maintenance codes in the city. He says it includes getting people to also remove inoperable cars from their yards. He says city commissioners believe enforcing the ordinances is a way to remove some eyesores from the community.
Hobie says police have issued more than 100 violation warnings this week but says starting May 1st the warnings end and citations will be issued to violators.
"The police department has sent out a little over 100 violation notices so far this week." 1856 So they're working on it quite actively."
