Wichita State University basketball guard Ron Baker letting the nation know he's proud of his western Kansas hometown of Scott City where he grew up and graduated in 2011.
So the mayor of Scott City proclaims Thursday Ron Baker day. The elementary and high school student bodies and local citizens turn out for a pep rally in front of the high school in support of Baker and the WSU team.
His high school coach Glenn O'Neil says, "Work is not a stranger to most of us here. And Ron showed western Kansas, the state of Kansas and the nation that with a little hard work you can go a long ways."
Baker's high school principal Shelly Turner says Baker is one of those kids everyone likes, teachers, staff and students. She describes Baker as a humble young man who talks to everyone when he comes back to Scott City.
