WICHITA, Kan. — Three children are in police protective custody after one of them was found wandering a south Wichita street Wednesday morning in freezing temperatures.
Around 11:30 a.m. yesterday, officers were on scene of a traffic accident near 55th Street South and Broadway when one of them noticed a child walking down the street alone. The four-year-old was wearing pajamas and tennis shoes, but had no coat. The wind chill at the time was -10 degrees.
Officers were able to locate the girl's home nearby, occupied by her parents and two-year-old twin sisters. According to the police report, there were "poor living conditions."
The 4-year-old and her sisters were taken into police protective custody. The Exploited and Missing Child Unit (EMCU) is investigating.
