The new executive director of Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure in Salina has worked at some of the nation's leading zoos and aquariums. So Bob Jenkins knows what he's talking about when he describes the Kansas attraction as a treasure waiting to be discovered.

Jenkins was hired after a national search by the board of Rolling Hills, which has a 64,000-square-foot wildlife museum and a sprawling zoo with more than 100 species from around the world.

Two weeks into the job, Jenkins told The Salina Journal he considers Rolling Hills "a real gem."

One of his goals is to draw more visitors off Interstate 70 to the attraction that was born less than 30 years ago when a businessman's barn full of draft horses was opened to tours for school groups.
