Carport At KCK Apartment Collapses; Trapped Man Unhurt

By: KMBC

A carport at an apartment complex in Kansas City, Kan., collapsed Saturday.

Firefighters were called to the 3100 block of Woodview Ridge Drive at 12:30 p.m. on a report of a man trapped in the collapse.

Chief Craig Duke told KMBC that a Bobcat operator was working to remove snow when the carport came down.

It was not immediately clear if the Bobcat clipped a support beam or if weight from the recent snowfall brought down the structure.

The Bobcat operator was freed after fire crews cut a hole in a portion of the carport. He was not injured.

The fire department said the carport was a complete loss and six vehicles were extensively damaged.

Damage was estimated at $85,000.
