Five people were hurt after a car hit a porch during a police pursuit late last night in west Wichita.
It began shortly before midnight on Thursday. According to the Wichita Police Department, an officer was trying to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 2500 block of South West Street when the driver sped up.
The chase lasted several minutes, and officers eventually deployed spike strips which flattened some of the tires. The driver continued for another half-mile before she lost control in the 1900 block of West Maple and hit the porch of a home.
The car caught on fire, but officers got all five people out of the vehicle: three men, a woman and a 17-year-old girl. Three of them were taken to area hospitals with unknown injuries. No one was at the home when the crash happened.
Police say one of the men in the car is an absconder from the Kansas Department of Corrections.
