HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- A body was pulled from Cheney Lake early Monday, after a Hutchinson man failed to return from a canoe outing.
A statement from the Reno County Sheriff's Office says Sheldon Martin, 31, of Hutchinson went to the lake Sunday morning to canoe. His family became concerned when he did not return by nightfall.
Martin's vehicle was found Sunday night in the area of Silver Lake Road and Sand Creek Road. A ground and air search followed, which led to the canoe around 2:30 a.m. Monday along the shore near Pretty Prairie Road and Mayfield Road. Martin's body was found nearby around 4:00 a.m.
Sheriff's officers say Martin still wore his lifejacket when he was found. The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy; officers do not suspect foul play.
