A Butler County teenager who was seriously injured after falling from an ATV over the weekend, has died.

Butler County emergency crews responded to the accident around 5:20 p.m. Saturday at southwest 60th and Fulton Road, just northwest of Augusta.

Sheriff Kelly Herzet tells KAKE News that four teenagers were riding a Honda Foreman 4-wheeler eastbound on 60th. He said that's when one of the teens, a 16-year-old girl, fell from the ATV while it was going about 30 miles per hour.

She was transported to a Wichita hospital with head and back injuries. The sheriff said no one on the ATV had been wearing a helmet.

16-year-old Hevin Thomas of Towanda was taken off of life support and Wesley Medical Center tells KAKE News that she passed away Monday evening.

The incident remains under investigation.
