Today, burn bans have been issued for Russell and Pawnee Counties in Kansas. Individuals who live within those counties should not do any open burning of any kind.
Residential trash burning, open burning of brush or grass, and open cooking fires, such as in a pit, are not permitted. Grilling is permitted.
Citizens should take precautions against wildfires and be careful when welding or cutting metal. NEVER throw cigarettes from a vehicle!
Extremely dry conditions have created the hazard potential for fires to quickly spread and are thus the cause of the ban.
