Two Wichita men face charges after authorities say one of them assaulted a Sumner County deputy while the other rammed the deputy's patrol car.

The deputy had been assigned to an area in northern Sumner County that had been the scene of recent burglaries. On Monday deputies responded to an alarm at a home east of Wellington and discovered it had been burglarized. The deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle and followed it to a neighborhood. The deputies then blocked the vehicle from exiting a driveway.

Investigators said a passenger in the vehicle opened the door and started assaulting the deputy. The driver rammed the patrol car, pushing it out of the way. The passenger then jumped back in the vehicle and it drove north on U.S. Highway 81. The suspects were arrested after leaving the vehicle and running from the scene.

Investigators said they found property linking the suspects to three burglaries in Sumner County. Kevin Parker, 34, and Christopher McDaniel, 28, were arrested on charges including burglary, theft and battery of a law enforcement officer.
