Additional Buhler school district counselors were provided to two schools today.

"We hurt for them and we hurt for the loss of lives. It's just a very devastating time," said Mike Berblinger, Buhler Schools Superintendent.

Two USD 313 students were involved in Thursday morning's fire in Hutchinson.

Authorities have arrested 14-year-old Sam Vonachen and charged him with murder and arson in connection to the fire that killed his mother, Karla Vonachen, and his 11-year-old sister, Audrey Vonachen.

Sam was a freshman at Buhler High School and Audrey was a sixth-grade student at Prosperity Elementary School.

"It echoes out through other people that are closely affected and those are the ones we really want to target and make sure we get the assistance to," said Berblinger. "It affects many people in many different ways."

This afternoon, a letter was sent to parents of sixth-grade students at Prosperity Elementary. The letter is attached to this article.

The district provided a phone number, 620-662-5535, to answer questions from parents.
