WICHITA, Kan. -- A police officer suffered minor injuries while trying to take someone into custody at a north Wichita motel.
It happened shortly after 11 a.m. Monday at the Sunflower Inn motel, located at 925 N. Broadway.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the motel to check the welfare of some children.
When they arrived, one officer went to one of the rooms and the other stopped in the office. In the office, the other officer found a man with several warrants and tried to take him into custody, but he resisted.
The officer tried to pepper spray the suspect, but during the struggle she was sprayed in the eyes and called for backup.
Other officers quickly arrived and he was taken into custody. A one-year-old child was also taken into protective custody. The man taken into custody is believed to be involved with the child's mother.
