A Riley County police officer was taken to the hospital Friday after his patrol car was side-swiped during a traffic stop on K-18.

At 8:45 a.m. Friday, the officer pulled a car over near Ogden in the westbound lanes of K-18, approximately five miles west of Manhattan

Officials with the Kansas Highway Patrol say the officer, 27-year-old Jamie Douglass, was seated inside his cruiser when he was struck by another passing car on the driver's side in the rear tire area.

A photo of the damaged cop car was tweeted by the Riley County Police Department. The tweet also reminded drivers to slow down and move away from emergency vehicles stopped on the side of the road and indicated that Douglass suffered minor injuries.

Douglass was transported to Mercy Regional Health Center for evaluation and treatment.

Another accident happened at the same location minutes later at 8:53 AM as other drivers were passing by the first crash.

A Mustang driven by a Fort Riley soldier slowed down due to debris in the roadway from the first accident and was rear-ended by a KIA Sorento due to what officials say was "inattentive driving." A two-year-old child was in the KIA at the time but no one was injured in the second collision.

According to troopers, the officer's vehicle was a brand new 2013 Ford Taurus.

Other Fort Riley soldiers who saw the crashes stopped to see if they could assist in any way.

The car that struck Officer Douglass' patrol car was a 2005 Toyota Sequoia, driven by 32-year-old Kasi Roberts from Clarksville, Tennessee. She was not injured but her SUV was damaged and had to be towed from the scene, according to reports.
