Botched Gun Sale In Hays Results In Aggravated Battery Arrest

A man has been jailed after a botched gun sale in Hays.

It happened just after 11 p.m. on Thursday, January 31 in the 200 block of West 7th Street.

Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler says the department received a report of a disturbance in the alley of 7th Street. Upon arrival, officers didn’t see anyone, but they did find a pool of blood and a blood trail.

Police later determined that John Towle had attempted to purchase a 9 mm handgun from another person. A disagreement over the price of the firearm resulted in a physical altercation in which the victim suffering head and facial injuries.

Towle was arrested for aggravated battery and felony possession of a firearm. He was also cited for disorderly conduct for a separate incident that took place shortly after the botched pistol sale.

The victim’s name was not released.
