TYRONE, Okla. -- At least 12 vehicles were involved in an pileup accident near Liberal, KS.
The accident happened around 1:40 p.m., nine miles southwest of Liberal. It appears that blowing dust limited visibility so severely that it cause vehicles to not see each other until it was too late and they collided. One report states that visibility was less than five feet.
According to Chief Anthony Adams of the Tyrone Fire Department in Oklahoma, six of the vehicles involved were cars and trucks, the other six were tractor trailers.
There were some minor injuries; one woman was pinned in her vehicle and the jaws of life had to be used to get her out. There were also four horses that were stuck in their trailer, of which one was injured.
The accident required Seward County EMS in Kansas and Tyrone Fire Rescue and Hooker Fire & EMS in Oklahoma. It took over four hours to clear the scene and reopen the highway.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol dispatcher tells KAKE News that the highway was shut down for a littler over four hours. She continued to say that it is very likely that blowing dust caused visibility to be diminished enough that it could have sparked the wreck.
Photos submitted to KAKE News show at least five vehicles involved, most of which appear to be tractor trailers.
It is not known how many or if any were injured by this wreck
