WICHITA, Kan. -- Donations for blood always go down in the summertime according to American Red Cross District Manager Terri Dunaway. "Summertime is typically a very difficult time of year for us because we get about 20 percent of our blood from high schools and colleges and so when they are not in session, the blood supply drops."

The supply right now is eight percent lower than expected translating to 80,000 fewer donations.

In order to try and boost numbers, the Wichita chapter of the Red Cross help a blood drive. The ' Rock 'N Roll Up Your Sleeve' blood drive was held Saturday.

Donors received a free shirt and Chick-Fil-A coupon; they were also eligible to win one of three $100 Visa gift card and one of six $50 Quik-Trip gasoline cards.

The Red Cross wanted 115 donors today; they fell short of that number but organizers were still excited because 91 pints of blood were donated.

The Red Cross does many blood drives and accepts blood from almost anyone. Here is a link to their website Click here with information on donating blood.
