Roads have been treated in the Wichita area, but there were many areas that remained icy for several hours. Many of the accidents that were reported happened on elevated roadways. School buses carrying Wichita students avoided the elevated roadways due to ice patches and gusty winds. EARP was in effect during the morning hours for the City of Wichita.
"Use a lot more care when you're driving in these types of conditions," said Sgt. Matt Vogt, Valley Center Police. "May have a lot more winter to go, obviously, so you're gonna have to be a lot more careful and don't get in too big of a hurry. Allow extra time to get to where you're going."
Snow started falling in NW Kansas late Wednesday morning. Interstate 70 has re-opened. Two highways remain closed in Kansas; US-183 north into Nebraska and US-36 in Northwest Kansas.
