Lawmakers are debating a bill that would allow slot machines at horse and greyhound tracks.

Senate Bill 319 was introduced this week. It stems from a grassroots effort aimed at reopening closed race tracks, and putting slot machines inside the complexes.

Wichita Wins is looking for legislative approval for a public vote in Sedgwick County on the question of allowing electronic machine gaming at the new complex.

In 2007, Sedgwick County voters rejected a similar measure by 244 votes and owner, Phil Ruffin, closed the doors to the facility.

The bill has been referred to committee on Federal and State affairs.

Governor Sam Brownback has said he does not want any new discussion on the measure.
