Men and women ride motorcycles to raise money for the Newton Humane Society, Caring Hands for the third annual Ride for the Dogs event.

Saturday was a busy day for a group of bikers in Newton, as they saddled up to save dogs at the Caring Hands Humane Society. After purchasing a $20 registration packet, riders drove to Park City, Bentley, Halstead, Hesston and back to Newton.

During their ride, riders played darts to win poker hands. The top three hands and the worst hand won prizes at the end of the run. All proceeds went to benefit the humane society. It costs $300 per animal, per stay including neutering/spaying, shots and vaccines and animal care.

About 75 riders turned out for the event. T-95 radio station sponsored the event. The poker run was followed by a live auction and luncheon.

If you would like to donate money to the Caring Hands Humane Society, stop by their location in Newton at 1400 SE 3rd Street or you can send them a check in the mail.
