Two benefits are scheduled this weekend to raise money for the family of a young mother killed in a collision with a train last weekend.
Eighteen-year-old Taylor Sowell was killed last Saturday when the car she was driving collided with a train in Harvey County. Her husband, 20-year-old Dylan Sowell, and her brother, 17-year-old Kyle Malek, were injured in the crash. The railroad crossing did not have flashing lights or gates.
A family member said Taylor and Dylan had been married only two months. They have an 8-month-old daughter, who was with a babysitter when the accident happened.
Saturday, organizers of a concert featuring acoustic artist Caleb McGinn will be accepting donations to help Sowell's family. That concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Innovo, 215 N. St. Francis in Wichita.
Family members have set up a benefit dinner and fundraiser, scheduled for Sunday, October 14th at 5 p.m. at the Sedgwick Elementary School Multi-purpose room, 400 W. 4th Street in Sedgwick.
A fund has also been established. Donations can be made to the Taylor Malek Sowell Memorial Fund at Legacy Bank locations.
