Wichita area sports bars are planning and bracing for an invasion of Shocker fans Saturday.
Managers of the bars say the best bet for getting a seat is to show up early. In fact, the manager of a northeast Wichita sports bar said he has received phone calls from people asking if they can camp out in front.
"I have no problem with it," said Kyle Smith, a manager at Larry Bud's East. "Our security team outside of the building has no problem with it. So, they can bring a tent if they need to."
The doors at Larry Bud's open at 11 a.m. Saturday and seating is first come, first served. Smith said the 250 seats inside will go quickly, but he is planning to double the bar's capacity for the Shockers' Final Four game.
"We're going to have our parking lot closed off," he said. "We're going to do a big beer tent outside with TVs and everything."
At Fox and Hound, the WSU Alumni Association's official watch party site, that bar's staff is also gearing up for a crazy day.
"We've had people calling all week, trying to reserve tables and find somewhere to sit," manager Gary Martindale said. "It's first come, first served, though, so get here early and it's going to be a great day."
Fox and Hound was already full a few hours before tip-off for the Shockers' Elite Eight game last Saturday, so the bar is bracing for even more fans this weekend.
"We've tried to bring in some extra tables to accommodate more seating in the building and we've had a couple of the bar tenders mess around with some drinks to try to make some Shocker-themed drinks for us," Martindale said.
Finding a bar from which to cheer the Shockers on when they take on top-seeded Louisville may mean an early start to fans' Saturdays, but it is probably worth it for the atmosphere.
