It's not a topic most of us like to talk about, but if you're a parent, you need to be aware of the symptoms.
In the latest Baby Your Baby, we take a look at the serious side of constipation and your little one.
Babies have a tendency to become constipated quickly and it can cause a lot of discomfort and even an infection. Local pediatrician Dr. Deborah Kroeker says the best way to prevent your child from becoming constipated is to have him or her eat five or more fruits and vegetables everyday.
The best include apples, pears, prunes or fruit juices such as apple and prune. Getting your child to stool on a regular basis is important so they don't have to deal with the symptoms of constipation.
Dr. Kroeker says if your toddler is having trouble potty training and he or she is having a hard time going number two in the toilet, try getting him or her to at least sit on the toilet for about ten minutes after each meal and read a book or play with a toy. This will help him or her get comfortable and hopefully prevent constipation.
