WICHITA, Kan. — A man and woman have been charged with abusing their baby boy.
On the evening of January 28, the couple brought their three-month-old boy to Wesley Medical Center saying the child became unresponsive after taking a bath. Doctors found head injuries and other severe internal injuries, and called police.
The three-month-old child was admitted to the hospital and placed in police protective custody.
The next day, officers arrested the child's parents, 26-year-old Aaron S. Piland and 28-year-old Christina M. Schulte. Today, both were were in court to be formally charged.
Piland was charged with three counts of aggravated battery, 1 count of abuse of a child and one count of aggravated endangerment of a child. Schulte was charged with one count of abuse of a child and one count of aggravated endangerment of a child.
Their preliminary hearing has been scheduled for February 19. Bond is set at $250,000 each.
Last week, police said the couple had just moved from Hutchinson to Wichita to live with Schulte's parents. A three-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy were also taken into protective custody.
