A child is still hospitalized after being pulled from a southwest Wichita pond Monday morning.

This morning, Wichita Police said the 17-month-old boy left his grandparents' house yesterday through a dog door. They were unaware that he had left. From there, he managed to get into a pond in the backyard of the home, located in the 5100 block of South Madison.

He was later pulled from the water in critical condition and remains hospitalized.

A child is in serious condition after being pulled from a pond in south Wichita.

Fire crews responded to the 5100 block of South Madison around 7:40 Monday morning. That's in the area of 47th Street South and Hydraulic.

A 17-month-old boy was pulled from a small pond in the backyard of a home. He was not breathing, but rescue crews were able to resuscitate him at the scene. He was then taken to a Wichita hospital in serious condition.

According to a family member, the child was staying at his grandparents' home.
