UPDATE, Thursday, January 24, 2013.
Wichita police say an 85-year-old man has died at a local independent living facility after having an apparent medical incident.
Emergency crews were called to the Masonic Towers, 402 S. Martinson, shortly before noon Thursday for a report of a drowning. The man was found unresponsive in the facility's hot tub.
"If there was a drowning it could be the result of a medical condition that occurred prior to that, or he could have possibly just died from a medical condition," Sgt. Bill Stevens said. "We don't know at this time. We are still investigating. The coroner's office will be looking into the cause of death."
Police say the man had been swimming in the morning with other people. But police say he was alone when he passed away in the hot tub.
Police say the man is known to exercise and swim regularly.
Police say there was no lifeguard on duty at the facility.
