Suspect In Murder Of Topeka Police Officers Dead

A citizen's report of drug activity led to a shooting that left two Topeka Police officers dead. Topeka and Shawnee County authorities updated reporters on the investigation today. The officers were shot as they investigated a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a Dillons store at 1400 SW Huntoon Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

The suspect died from wounds he suffered as he was being removed from a Topeka home early this morning. The Shawnee County Sheriff's Department said the man came out of the house holding a gun.

Authorities said the man fired one shot and Topeka Police returned fire. Police have identified the suspect as 22 year-old David Edward Tiscareno.

Police have identified the officers as 50 year-old Corporal David Gogian and 29 year-old officer Jeff Atherly. Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller says Gogian's son is also a police officer.

Both men suffered head wounds in the shooting, according Chief Miller. Gogian and Atherly are the first Topeka Police officers killed in the line of duty since 2000 when a helicopter crash claimed the lives of Jeff Howey and Joey Bohlender.

Early Monday, officers lobbed tear gas into the home, several apparent gunshots rang out and a police dog dragged something from the house. Reporters said a man who was not moving was removed from the building.

Several officers then entered the house and an ambulance drove away.

Donations can be sent to the Topeka Police Credit Union, 320 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka KS, 66603. Donations will be split evenly between the two funds unless otherwise specified by the donor.

Cash donations will be accepted in person M-F between 9:00-2:00. The Fraternal Order of Police will hold a candlelight vigil tonight at 6:00 in front of the law enforcement center. The public is invited.

Topeka Police say two officers shot Sunday evening outside of a Dillon's store have died. Our sister station WIBW reports that the officers died at the hospital shortly after they were transported from the scene.

Police have identified the suspect as 22 year-old David Edward Tiscareno. Tiscareno is a Native American man with black hair and brown eyes. 5'10" tall and weighing 217 Ibs.

A bulletin was sent out to law enforcement across the state in an attempt to located Tiscareno.

Topeka Police confirm two officers have been shot outside of a Dillon's Store. Our sister station WIBW reports that three officers responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle outside of the store located at 1400 SW Huntoon, shortly after 6 p.m.

Police confirm that two officers were shot, but no details about their condition are being released.

Officers currently have a home surrounded in the 400 block of Buchanan and a SWAT team has arrived on scene where it is believed at least one suspect is inside.

Because Topeka Police officers are involved, the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation into the shooting.

Multiple state and local law enforcement agencies are on the scene of a a shooting at a grocery store in Topeka. It happened shortly after 6 o'clock in the evening at the Dillon's Store, located at 1400 SW Huntoon Street in Topeka.

Our sister station WIBW spoke to witnesses at the scene who reported two officers had been shot. Neighbors in the area reported hearing multiple shots.

Authorities are currently looking for a silver Toyota Camry with Kansas license plate 152-DFJ. Police have not confirmed whether or not officers were hurt in the incident which happened in front of the store.
