The executive director of Augusta's Chamber of Commerce has been arrested for felony theft.
Kent Overaker was arrested and booked into the Butler County jail Thursday morning, said Chamber President Kent Bush.
Bush said some board members noticed irregularities in financing during a meeting on Tuesday. After investigating further, the Chamber of Commerce found documents indicative of embezzlement. The case was then turned over to the Augusta Police Department. Overaker was then arrested for theft between $1,000 and $25,000.
The Chamber says they are missing an undisclosed amount of money from its checking account.
Overaker was fired during a special meeting Thursday, and the board will handle his duties until a new director is hired. Overaker had been in the position since March of 2012.
