WICHITA, Kan. -- Police are once again urging Wichita residents to refrain from leaving their cars unattended so they can warm up.
With the recent cold temperatures, officers have seen a spike in car thefts around the city. Since December 1, 16 cars left to warm up have been reported stolen.
Police say residents are starting their cars, then going back inside their homes for several minutes. In other cases, people have left their cars running outside convenience stores, only to come out and find them gone.
Police are asking drivers to refrain from leaving their cars running while unattended, unless you have a remote start system installed.
