GOODLAND, Kan. -- A woman is in critical condition after an explosion and fire in northwest Kansas.

Crews were called around 11:15 Friday morning to a home on West 9th Street in Goodland. They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames emanating from the house.

A woman who was inside suffered critical burns and was flown to a Denver hospital for treatment.

The Goodland Star-News said it took about an hour for firefighters to extinguish the blaze.

Police said they are investigating the fire as arson but didn't say whether they had any suspects. More information is expected on Monday.
