SALINA, Kan. — Two men are jailed in connection to the theft of numerous guns from a Kansas sporting goods store last month.
In mid-April, more than 100 guns and several knives were stolen in a break-in at Cleve's Marine and Sporting Goods in Salina.
Wednesday night, Salina police stopped a minivan for a traffic violation. When the van pulled over, police say the driver and passenger got out and started walking away. Officers stopped the men and conducted a search. They found two guns that had been stolen.
Later, officers searched one of the suspect's apartments and recovered 68 more guns taken in the theft. In all, 73 guns were recovered. They also found items that had been stolen from three other Salina businesses and a residence.
Police arrested two men: 27-year-old Gregory Walburn and 32-year-old Matthew Hewitt. Both are facing federal charges. Police say additional arrests are expected.
