WICHITA, Kan. — Police have made an arrest after a woman was sexually assaulted last month at a northeast Wichita park.
Around 3 p.m. on June 13, a woman who was jogging at Eastview Park was approached from behind by a man on a bicycle. The woman was knocked to the ground, dragged to nearby bushes and raped at knife point.
She managed to get away and call for help. When police arrived, they found some of the victim's clothes, the attacker's knife and his bicycle.
About 10 days after the incident, someone called to report a suspicious person in the area of the park.
Following an investigation and based on forensic evidence, yesterday officers arrested a 44-year-old man. Benton G. Baskin was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated kidnapping. Police say he also has a criminal history.
