Arkansas City Police Officer Helps Save Home From Fire

Saturday, December 1, 2012

An Arkansas City Police Officer is being credited with helping to save a home after a fire Friday evening. It happened around 8:40 p.m. in the 700 block of South 2nd Street.

In a news release, Chief of Police Shawn Wallace says the officer was at the home to check to see that a juvenile who was on probation was complying with his curfew.

When he arrived, he saw smoke coming from the house. Wallace says the officer radioed the fire into dispatchers and then started banging on the front door and yelling to alert the homeowners.

The fire department arrived on scene and were able to quickly put out the fire with minimal damage to the home.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but Chief Wallace says the officers quick actions prevented the fire from causing extensive damage to the home.
