A man with a rifle holed up in an apartment in west Wichita led to several units being evacuated, but the incident ended peacefully.
It started around 11:00 a.m. at Yorktown apartments in the 9200 block of west 21st Street.
Officers arrived on scene and discovered a man was in an apartment in building 300 with a rifle and ammunition, threatening to commit suicide. As a precaution, several surrounding units were evacuated.
After less than an hour, the man was talked down and taken into custody. Two rifles, one loaded, and a bag of ammunition were recovered. The evacuated residents were then allowed to return to their homes.
No names have been released.
