ANDOVER, Kan. -- An Andover teacher is on leave following an arrest last month for sexual battery.
On Thursday, December 19, police officers were dispatched to the report of a sexual battery at an Andover home. A 19-year-old woman who was home from college reported that a man came to the house that morning while her parents were gone. She told police that the man made unwanted sexual advances toward her and touched her inappropriately.
Officers contacted the man, and he willingly came to the police department to be interviewed by detectives. He was soon arrested and booked on one count of sexual battery, a misdemeanor.
He's been identified as 51-year-old Robert R. Gould, who works as a teacher at Andover Central High School.
Tuesday, a school district spokesperson released the following statement:
On Thursday, December 19, we were made aware that one of our employees was charged with sexual battery. We take this matter very seriously and are conducting an investigation, as is the Andover Police Department. The employee has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The incident did not occur on school grounds, nor did it involve any current students. Because this is an active investigation and a personnel matter, no additional information is available to be shared at this time.
