Andale's police chief was arrested and booked into jail Friday, authorities said Friday.
Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter confirmed to KAKE News that 40-year-old Andale Police Chief Robert Bailey was arrested in Colwich just before 9:30 Friday morning for domestic violence battery.
Bailey has since been released from the Sedgwick County Jail on his own recognizance. Formal charges are pending.
Details about the case weren't made available.
Andale's acting police chief, Lt. Brian Hunter, said Bailey was already on leave at the time of his arrest but would not elaborate. He said the department is investigating.
According to the city's website, Bailey had been a full-time officer with the city of Andale since early 2010 and was appointed to Chief of Police May 21, 2012.
