WICHITA, Kan.--- Some classroom temperatures are reaching no more than 80 degrees due to a partially functioning air conditioning unit at Allen Elementary School.

"It's a little warm but certainly not unbearable," said Molly Nespor, principal.

The problem was found last week and a work order was sent to the district. Preliminary results showed that the chiller was only working at 50-percent.

Nespor was informed that there may be a leak in the chiller, but in order to fix it, the whole unit would need to be shut off.

"If they shut off and start working on it, then we have no air, so we have to wait until it gets cooler for them to be able to fix the chiller," she said.

Most parents understand that it will take some time to fix the problem, but others felt they should have been notified about it.

Classrooms are currently equipped with fans and students are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids.

"Our kids are learning. We don't have anybody passed out on the floor. We're going on and we're showing kids that you work through challenges," said Nespor.

A spokesperson for the district also confirmed that Caldwell Elementary School was without air conditioning for about half a day on Monday. The air conditioning unit was fixed by Tuesday.
