Kansas Republican National Committeeman Mike Pompeo has won the GOP primary in Kansas' 4th Congressional District.

Pompeo will face state Rep. Raj Goyle, winner of Tuesday's Democratic primary, in the general election. Both are from Wichita. In his victory speech, Pompeo said he would work to bring jobs to Kansas. He also took the opportunity to tell his supporters that Goyle had been a supporter of many of President Obama's policies.

The winner will succeed longtime Republican Congressman Todd Tiahrt, who gave up the seat to run this year for U.S. Senate.

The 4th Congressional District includes the Wichita area and the surrounding counties, including the cities of Newton, El Dorado and Winfield.

Pompeo defeated four other Republicans on Tuesday. His closest competitors were state Sen. Jean Kurtis Schodorf of Wichita and oil company executive Wink Hartman of Rose Hill.
