Shirley McCabe had already purchased a $2 Bonus Crossword ticket last night, but she hadn’t scratched it yet. Despite that, she asked the friend she was riding with to stop at another store so she could get a second Bonus Crossword ticket.

“I don’t even know why,” said the Wichita woman. “I don’t usually play Bonus Crosswords because I’m dyslexic. A friend told me to try one of the Bonus Crosswords because it might help me. Boy, did it ever!”

McCabe found ten words on the second ticket she purchased, winning herself a $20,000 top prize. She bought the ticket at QuikTrip 391, located at 730 N. Broadway St. in Wichita.

Currently in school, McCabe plans to use her prize money to help her aunt pay property taxes on her house. McCabe also told Lottery officials she’s going to pay up her own rent for an entire year.
