Wichita police say they are looking into the case of a 3-month-old boy who suffered skull fractures and apparent bruising to his brain on Tuesday.

The boy's parents rushed him to a Wichita hospital, where doctors said his injuries - though serious - were not life-threatening.

Police say the investigation is still in its early stages, but it appears the baby may have been injured when he was accidentally dropped onto a tile floor by his 5-year-old sister. It happened in the 2900 block of S. Washington, according to police.

Investigators were contacted by hospital staff. Police say it is routine to follow-up on cases involving serious injuries to young children.
