State transportation officials are preparing to release a feasibility study that looks at the potential for expanding Amtrak rail service through Kansas.

The study is scheduled to be released and discussed Thursday by Kansas Department of Transportation Secretary Deb Miller.

Spokeswoman Abbey Luterick says the KDOT study will include four alternative routes identified for potential development. The next step will be for Amtrak and state officials to gather additional information that will lead to the selection of one preferred route.

Amtrak is looking at expanding high-speed rail service across the country. One of the projects under consideration, with the help of federal funding, would pass through Kansas.
