Wichita Police said a Southeast High School student who was believed to be killed in a traffic accident, actually died when she was run over by the car.

The incident happened near Southeast High School Thursday. Police have identified the victim as Yadira Villa, 16.

Police said the incident began as a fist fight between rival gang members in an alley near the school campus. The fight broke up and groups of teens got into two vehicles and started driving on Lincoln.

Police said the driver of a sedan tried to force the other vehicle off the road so they could resume the fight. The sedan, carrying Villa, crashed into a tree.

Villa survived the crash and got out of the car. The sedan's driver tried to free his car from the tree and backed over Villa, killing her.

The drivers of both cars have been arrested. Police said both drivers are 16-years-old and known gang members.
