Inman Police Chief Charged With Child Sex Crimes

The Police Chief of Inman, Kansas is in jail, accused of child sex crimes.

McPherson County's Sheriff said Michael Akins Jr., 38 was arrested at his home Tuesday evening.

Akins made his first court appearance this morning and was charged with one count Rape, 14 counts Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child, one count Indecent Solicitation with a Child, two counts Battery, and one count Lewd and Lascivious Behavior (level 9 person felony.
All charges are felonies.

Then Attorney General's office said the charges involve three girls and one boy under the age of 14.

Akins bond is set at $250,000. He was appointed Police Chief in January, 2007, and had served in the department since 2005. Akins previously worked for the Rolla and Moundridge Police departments.
